Macanudo is a well-known cigar brand manufactured by the General Cigar Company in the Dominican Republic. Initially, Macanudo was a frontmark produced in Guatemala by the creators of the Cuban Punch brand. In 1971, General Cigar secured the rights to the Macanudo name outside of Cuba and introduced an entirely separate and independent Macanudo brand. This new Macanudo brand, distinct from the original Cuban Macanudo produced in Guatemala by the makers of Punch cigars, was developed and launched by General Cigar as its own unique offering. Led by Ramón Cifuentes, a seasoned cigar maker from the renowned Partagas brand in Cuba, the Macanudo brand was developed in Jamaica. Following the revolution in Cuba in 1959, production was shifted from Cuba to Jamaica, and eventually to the Dominican Republic in October 2000.
